Awake NY x ASICS GEL-Kayano 5 360

Arriving early next week is a new collab from Awake and ASICS that features two new colourways of the GEL-Kayano. Both of which have been put together by the New York clothing brand’s creative director and founder Angelo Baque with the tagline of “The World is Yours”. Combining the advanced sole of the GEL-Quantum 360 with the upper of the GEL-Kayano 5 OG the collaboration draws from Angelo’s experiences in New York & Paris. With the silver and green pair referencing the Flushing Meadows Park area of Queens and the gold & black version hinting at Baque’s nighttime strolls though the streets of Paris. Or as the man puts it himself:

“Words can’t explain how long I’ve waited to design my own sneaker. I don’t know how to express how big of a deal this is to me. The design and inspiration comes from going to Flushing Meadow Park as a kid and always being fascinated by the Unisphere and then as an adult I started coming to Paris and loved walking around at night in the golden lit streets. During the day watching all the young North and West African youth appropriate ASICS to their wardrobe, rocking track suits with ASICS on their feet. Paris has a special place in my heart and is one of the only cities in the world that feels like NYC.”

The Awake x ASICS GEL-Kayano 5 360 is available from selected retailers from the 12th of July.
