Levi’s Skateboarding in Ridge Pine

I’ve done a few bits of work for Levi’s recently and I have to say that as a company they’re just as cool on the inside as they are on the out. A proper decent lot if you’ll excuse the terrible pun. If further proof was needed of their double safe attitude then check out what Levi’s skateboarding have been up to. Arriving on the 21st of October is a truly heart-warming documentary that tells the story of a skate park built with Levi’s help on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota (as part of their global ‘Skate Build’ Project). Pine Ridge has been widely reported in the media as an impoverished community with a drug and alcohol epidemic and teen suicide rates seven to ten times greater than the National US average. Yet the collective action of the community and Levi’s has lead to the completion of the skate park and appears to be working in providing a more positive pastime to the local kids. Prior to the initial Pine Ridge being built back in 2013 there were less than a dozen skateboarders throughout the community, two years later there’s now over one hundred. Levi’s teamed up with Grindline Skateparks to complete the Pine Ridge Park last summer  andthe two brands then agreed to build a second park in the neighbouring town of Manderson. Make sure you watch the documentary to get the full story next week and lets all raise our glasses to the Lakota community, kids on skateboards everywhere and those lovely people over at Levi’s.
