Levi’s Vintage Clothing – The 9th Street Exhibition of 1951

lvc-1

The world of abstract expressionism and American art that erupted out of  post-war America reached its zenith at New York’s 9th Street Exhibition in 1951 where the avant-garde and surrealist work of a creative community that included Clifford Still, Joan Mitchell, Barnett Newman and Jackson Pollock achieved global acclaim.  And it’s this happening happening back in ’51 that LVC have focussed on as the inspiration their archival AW16 creations or should that be curations?

Highlights key pieces reflect the ground-breaking artists of the 9th Street Exhibition with paint splatter detailing and distressing, including customised Bay Meadows tees, 1950s inspired Tab Twill Shirts, and the iconic Lot 67 Sack Coat. The super cool beatnik style collection also re-introduces popular icons such as the 1950s Sportswear Tee along with the Bay Meadows Sweatshirt with an updated fit too. Though a late contender, the collection’s accompanying photo-shoot has to be one of the greatest I’ve seen all year and is an absolute masterpiece.
