According to our mate Thom over at at Mamnick, the delightful county of Derbyshire is the new Scandinavia and as I only live a ten minute Volvo drive from the borders of the Peak District I am inclined to agree. Though pickled herring isn’t quite as popular and I have yet to see reindeers, skidoos or Sami shamen flying through Bakewell, there is a raw and beautiful quality that the UK’s oldest national park shares with the majestic tundras of our Nordic cousins.
Which I guess brings us nicely to Mamnick’s Pilsley shirt, named after the small village in North Derbyshire which is a ritual Saturday morning stop off on the Rutland bicycle club’s ‘tea-cake’ run, of which Thom is a member. Now I’ve no idea who the dude in the hat is but he’s wearing a lovely shirt and does have a real look of local legend John Shuttleworth’s son Darren about him. Look out for that rabbit-hole Darren! Oof!
