As the gentrification of Manchester’s Northern Quarter continues, the previous inhabitants of that part of town are edged further towards the periphery. It’s probably a metaphor for society or summat. Either way, the five minutes watching a lad painstakingly prepare his drugs paraphernalia earlier this afternoon was the highlight of my day. It’s rough and ready yet a stone’s throw from where all the cool people knock about. It’s sometimes difficult to suss who is a posh kid pretending to be homeless, and who is actually homeless. It’s almost a thing now. Smackhead Hipsters or something.
With this as the backdrop to my daily life, looking at Palace SS16 has me once again in mind of lads dressing like a 1990s madhead. Like bicycle thieves. Like lads outside gigs grafting snide tickets. It’s a strong look. Ticket touts always look good.
Then again, it’s Friday, I’ve just had a long lunch and nearly went under as I devoured some chickpea and tomato soup, so what do I know, other than the fact this Palace gear will fly out and I’ll like far more of it than I should be allowed.
Out online 10th March and a bit earlier in their actual shop.

good bit of writing this, just need more of it. Much prefer a good bit of writing than moody press shots of clothes.
Smackhead hipster that’s a thing, that is.
