Only a company from Italy could take the humble garage pin-up calendar and turn it into a highly sought after art-form.
I’m talking of course about Pirelli who to celebrate the 50th year of the world’s most iconic calendar have created an impressively weighty album with Taschen which offers a complete look back at five decades of conceptual crumpet. As well as the calendars there’s also never before images from behind the scenes and ones that were deemed far to racy to see the light of day. Alongside the work of Richard Avedon, Karl Lagerfeld, Annie Leibovitz, Terry Richardson, Herb Ritts, Mario Testino, Bruce Weber et al. you’ll also see the likes of Gisele Bündchen, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Penélope Cruz, Milla Jovovich, Heidi Klum, Sophia Loren, and Kate Moss all bringing a ridiculous amount of arty, erotic allure to the wonderful world of car tyres.
