For this coming Autumn/Winter season those Danish design dons at RAINS have come up with their own inimitable interpretations of several classic outerwear pieces. Added to their own iconic raincoat styles come brand new RAINS versions of the bomber, the parka, the mackintosh and the coach jacket. Resulting garments in a highly desirable mix of pleasingly familiar shapes with a refreshingly new and exciting feel. I’ve seen this gear ‘in the flesh’ and it’s without a doubt wonderful. Though it does perhaps help that they shot this gear amidst the work of Danish design icons such as Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner and Verner Panton down at the Roxy Klassik showroom in Copenhagen. they looks like stills taken from a Danish version of the Breakfast Club where the kids get one over on the teacher by knowing more about architectural functionalism than him which forces him to take an overdose of liquorice in the confines of his Bauhaus style staff room.
