For multi-platinum MC Mr Lamar’s take on Reebok’s historic Club C tennis shoe he’s taken direct inspiration from his latest album which focuses on themes of anonymity and abstraction whilst calling out for a greater sense of unity. Which is why there’s Acid-washed denim and dash heel elements to accentuate the ‘mysterious personality’ of the shoe with black and white patterns also featured to represent equality and bringing society coming together. Whereas the red label and heel elements are there to symbolise the strength, power and passion found in Kendrick’s music and movements. The purposefully hidden branding, shown only on the tongue’s interior is done to represent anonymity, forcing people to look beyond the surface and think differently – another attribute inspired directly by his latest album. There’s also a highlighted “k” and “o” details in the quarter logo window which is a reference to Kendrick’s signature nickname, “K.Dot,” Though perhaps he sums it up best himself when he says: “Now more than ever is it important for individuals to come together as one. This sneaker represents that call for unity and equality, while also pushing people to look beneath the surface and uncover the hidden messages. This is something I try to do with my music, and now here with the Club C.” You can’t really argue with that can you?
