When Europe & Asia come together creatively usually some pretty special things are produced. Like British Chinese food or British Indian food. Actually, that’s just British people taking a good thing and arguably making it worse, although you can’t deny the deliciousness of a Tikka Masala. Anyway, one of the latest exports produced by the combined efforts of Britain and India is actually exceptionally good.
That latest effort is the collaboration between British heritage brand Baracuta and South Asian Artisan label, Kartik Research. The two brands have come together to explore the legacy of craftsmanship from their respective homelands, interweaving their signature design languages to form a collection of contemporary everyday workwear with a timeless vintage sensibility.
The collection applies Kartik’s artisanal design philosophy to Baracuta silhouettes. The result of this is workwear that doesn’t follow the standard boring brown and tan colours, instead, the gear features vibrant embroidered patterns synonymous with types of traditional Indian dress.
The collection consists of everyday boxy relaxed tailoring featuring a lightweight cotton shirt and loose-fitting black straight-leg pleated trousers, alongside Baracuta’s iconic G9 and G4 jacket.
In our minds, this is a ludicrously good collaboration and a step in the right direction of making workwear a bit more fun. Because we should have fun whilst we work, shouldn’t we?
The collection is available from Friday the 27th of September here and here and here. Oh and here.
