Proper Picks – October 2024

Autumn is here and naturally our focuses fixes on footwear and the outerwear we love to write about. This month’s round-up reflects that. It’s bigger than usual, just like the coat you’re going to be wearing soon.

Goldwin x OAMC Down Jacket

If you’re anything like us, you’ve spent the last few weeks beckoning the winter forward if only to bring out the big coats. Now that it’s here, the big coats are looking lonely. They need some mates. That’s where this lovely down effort from Goldwin and OAMC comes in.

ST95 Imperiali Puffer

If it’s a puffer you want/need, ST95 are here for you. This Osti-founded brand enjoyed a short-lived first chapter, re-establishing itself in recent years with practical, attractive silhouettes that are sympathetic to the legacy of its founder.

adidas Terrex Xperior Hooded Jacket

Looking like a regular puffer jacket designed by a mouse on cocaine, this Terrex effort is a nice alternative to the other stuff you’ve no doubt been perusing.

Topo Designs Fleece Cap

The appreciation for this brand is deep-rooted here at Proper. When they make a winter-appropriate cap like this our ears prick up.

Norse Projects Johannes Organic Cap Print T-Shirt

Winter is still t-shirt time, it’s just that you need a few extra layers on top to keep warm. This Johannes Organic Cap t-shirt is a nice understated variation on the printed t-shirts you already have a few of.

Carhartt Sumimasen Keychain

A cursory google informs me Sumimasen means ‘apology’ in Japanese, which makes sense when you look at this keyring. Wonder what he’s done? Bet he’s knocked a wall down that he wasn’t meant to knock down. Something daft.

Heresy Ancestors Knit

This is terrifying. Don’t buy it if you’re a bit prone to getting scared.

Stan Ray Hunters Jacket

Something a bit ‘early-Stone Island’ about this, which isn’t what you’d expect when talking about Stan Ray’s influences. But there you have it. A nice bit of workwear with a contrast colour going on. Suave.

Gramicci L/S Pocket T-Shirt

No t-shirt selection is complete without a tie-die long sleeve, even if you lack the courage to wear it (like me).

Elmer Windproof City Glove

Ah, winter. When our fingers get cold and we can indulge in seasonal puns. Once mitten, twice shy. Glove story etc. Sorry.

Kardo – Gianni Shirt

Embrace your exotic side with this beautifully made shirt from Indian brand Kardo.

Snow Peak – Heavy Cotton Border T-Shirt – White / Blue

The first striped number on the list. Don’t be fooled by this T-shirt, it’s very thick, trust me I’ve touched one in real life.

WF-Dry T-Shirt – Horizon Red

A technical T-shirt in a nice autumnal colour. Looks to be lightweight and good for outdoor activities, if that’s your thing.

END. x Levis – 568 Stay Loose Jeans ‘Mount Rambler’

It’s hard to tell from flat shots whether trousers are going to fit well, but these do. These slacks come with small utilitarian tweaks, like little brass rings and mountain embroidery inside the back pockets.

Gramicci Long Bill Cap

A Gramicci hat with a looooong bill. Originally long bill caps were designed for fishermen, but now anyone is allowed to wear them. Oh the joys of fashion!

THISISNEVERTHAT – Gore-Tex Windstopper Down Puffer Jacket

If you’ve never worn a waterproof down jacket, you’re missing out, I’ve only ever borrowed my mates one because they’re quite expensive. This jacket from THISISNEVERTHAT will carry you effortlessly through October and into the winter months, and it’s in a nice chocolate colour.

Goldwin – Twill Easy Pants

An easy pair of pants for those easy days, or hard ones. Comfy enough to enjoy wearing, but smart enough that they’re not just limited to your living room.

Klattermusen – Lodyn Primaloft Jacket

The most similar-looking item to a Babybel on this list. If you’re buying a jacket from Klattermusen, you know it’s going to be solid, if it’s tough enough for Swedish alpinists, it’s tough enough for us.

Casual Co – Desert Boots T-Shirt

We recently did an article about Ken Crutchlow running across Death Valley in a pair of Clarks Desert Boots, so we only though it would be right to include a Casual Co tribute T-shirt to that event in this list.

Gander – Heaton Longsleeve

A slice of niceness from Gander’s AW24 collection. These shirts are based on the ones worn by Tarahumara runners, who wear bright-coloured, baggy tops when ultra running in the rough terrain of the Sierra Tarahumara. Interesting that Gander took their inspiration from such an active event, considering their latest shoot was in a pub. They really do it all.

Chaco – Z Cloud Sandals

Wrong season for these isn’t it? Don’t care. Think they’re cool.

Kappy – Pigment Sweatshirt

Whenever I look at pigment-dyed stuff I’m always left wondering why everything isn’t pigment-dyed. This sweatshirt is in a lovely deep green colour, a bit like seeweed.

Unowned Spaces x HANWAG – Bergler UOS

Finishing our list with a lovely boot. Big fan of the algae colour with the pale pink laces – look like they’ve been styled by a utilitarian folklore wizard.
