What do you get when you cross German footwear with American outdoor-wear?
A very good collaboration. It’s not a joke, there’s nothing funny at all about this.
That was a pathetic attempt at us trying to grab your attention, and if you’re reading this it has probably worked, so that’s good. Anyway, back to the topic at hand. The German footwear and American outdoor-wear brands in question are BIRKENSTOCK and Filson, who have joined forces to unveil a collection of fine items for your feet.
The collaboration fuses both brands’ lengthy heritages, taking the rugged American workwear aesthetics of Filson and fusing them with BIRKENSTOCK’s considered footwear design. The new collection introduces three new styles, all of which are designed for those who like to venture into the wilderness of the modern world. Kind of like us shuffling into a corner shop to buy a cold Dr Pepper, in an attempt to cure a bout of Sunday existential dread.
The new entrants to the BIRKENSTOCK line-up envisage the environment of North America by utilizing materials such as waxed cotton, leather and Filson’s signature Mackinaw wool.
The three styles on offer are…
- The London Methrow: a low shoe model, featuring an adjustable buckle, strap, and unlined, malleable leather.
- The Lahti: a soft hunting boot with a cozy, foldable upper signature to Filson, completed with Mackinaw woold and an anti-slip sole.
- The Skykomish is a rustic, utilitarian-style boot with a Filson fabric upper and a textured rubber mudguard.
All the shoes have been finished with a colour palette of forest green, flame orange and roasted browns. If you want our opinion, there’s definitely something very The Good, The Bad and The Ugly about this collection, and don’t get us wrong, we’re into it.
The Skykomish looks like what Clint Eastwood would wear if he was wandering through a stream, The Lahti if he was going hunting and The London Methrow if he decided to take a day-off being a vigilante and wanted to just chill around the house.
If you fancy dressing like an out-of-hours cowboy, the collection is set to release on Tuesday 22nd October 2024, via Filson.
