Lookbooks are well good, aren’t they?
Seeing a load of attractive people wearing nice clothes a million times better than you ever could – it’s inspiring in an unattainable kind of way, sort of like how you dream of being an astronaut when you’re a child.
That’s a bit depressing actually, and the news we’re sharing isn’t depressing in the slightest.
That news comes from firm Proper favourites, Les Deux and the announcement of their Winter 24 / Pre-Spring 25 collection titled Neighborhood.
The collection draws on design references straight out of ’90s NYC, journeying from Wall Street to Madison Square Garden through the wide array of preppy and street influenced garments. Formal elements of the collection come in the form of ties and brushed shirts, whereas their more contemporary counterparts consist of items such as gauge knits and wide cut denim.
The Danish menswear aficionados have styled the collection through the lens of growing up in one of New York’s bustling neighbourhoods and the wide variety of styles and uniforms that its inhabitants create and adopt.
Here’s what Creative Director Mathias H.Jensen had to say about the styling:
‘There’s a small Italian silk tie capsule that adds something quite grown up to the fresh street pieces. It’s our version of a suit, but taken down a notch, and you’ll see the ties partnered with pieces like leather varsity jackets and caps. Casual, formal, preppy and street all rolled into one.‘
We’re a fan of collections that cater for a large scope of styles, and this one certainly does – the benefit of this is you can look at garments you would typically wear being styled with one’s that maybe you wouldn’t…
For example, you might be into varsity jackets, and that’s all well and good, but have you ever seen them styled with paisley ties and pink caps? If you say you have, you’re lying.
The standout garments from the collection in our view are the Noah Jacquard Coach Jacket, the Marshall Corduroy Coach Jacket and the Hordur Fair Isle Cardigan – to say there’s some nice fabrics in this release is a definite understatement.
