Living in the UK, or even Europe for that matter, it’s always exciting when a store manages to negotiate a deal to stock a new Japanese brand. Although it must be said, it’s a concoction of both excitement and also intimidation, simply because most Japanese brands absolutely reek of coolness.
It’s equivalent to when a new sporty kid joins school, everyone’s chatting about them, everyone’s wanting to figure out if they’re alright or not, and usually all the girls immediately fancy them – intimidating stuff.
Well, the new kid in the corridor today is Japanese label, SEDAN ALL-PURPOSE, courtesy of our good friends at The Garbstore.
To get an understanding of what SEDAN ALL-PURPOSE is all about, you’re probably best off looking at their product, but given that Proper is a magazine, we’ll attempt to give you an in-depth explanation using words…
The best way of doing this is to pick apart the brand’s semi-unusual name. SEDAN is in reference to the type of car, which we call a Saloon in the UK, this genre of automobile has been picked over other options to evoke a feeling of timelessness, but also reliability and functionality.
The second part of the mnemonic, ALL-PURPOSE, is pretty self-explanatory – we reckon you can figure that one out for yourself without an explanation.
As for the designs themselves, SEDAN ALL-PURPOSE draw a healthy amount of inspiration from classic Americana silhouettes from the 90s, creating the kind of clobber that attributes itself to that effortless, relaxed kind of style.
Included in the first shipment of SEDAN ALL-PURPOSE product to hit the United Kingdom is a range of lovely products in a range of lovely fabrics – corduroy work shirts, pleated trousers, Primaloft jackets, football style training tops and even a collaboration with Dickies…
The Dickies collaboration takes the form of a duo of Double Knee Work Pants that come installed with a vent that runs down the side and an included shoelace belt, complete with shoelace-sized belt buckles.
We’d personally like to give a warm welcome to SEDAN ALL-PURPOSE, and now we’ve done a bit of research we’re feeling much less intimidated by the whole thing.
