It’s been pretty well documented, but in case you aren’t aware, we are big fans of Kickers.
For those of you who can remember, our in-house brand, Hikerdelic, actually collaborated with Kickers on a version of the Kick Hi, way back in 2019.
You’ll probably not be surprised to hear that this was no freak accident – we had always wanted to work with the brand – their choice footwear combined with British musical heritage made it a no-brainer.
Whilst we could most definitely wax lyrical about something great Kickers did five years ago, we’re not going to, instead, we’re going to tell you about something great Kickers are doing right now…
A campaign titled ‘Stomping Grounds,’ launched in partnership with Save our Scene – an organisation dedicated to advocating for the preservation of UK live music.
As we mentioned earlier, Kickers have a rich entanglement with British music history – the Kick Hi has been donned by icons from just about every decade since its conception, with David Bowie, the Stone Roses & Skepta being just a small portion to have sported the legendary boot.
As a way of paying back to the grassroots music scenes the brand is synonymous with, Kicker’s partnership with Save our Scene will see a series of events being hosted across the UK to raise awareness and encourage support to tackle the current crisis that faces live music venues.
Now obviously we’re no idiots, we’re well aware that this crisis has been going on for some time, but we didn’t fully appreciate the extent of the situation until we read the statistics included in the press release.
The statistics show that 37% of clubs have closed in the past 4 years, with the past 12 months being the worst on record with 125 spaces having closed or stopped hosting events.
In an effort to combat these closures, Stomping Grounds events are taking place across the UK featuring performances from headline acts and local talent, with proceeds going to Music Venue Trust.
The first event was headlined by Hak Baker and took place on the 14th of November at the Windmill in Brixton – it looked well good, and we’re actually pretty annoyed that we didn’t get to go.
If you reciprocate our feelings, don’t fret, more Stomping Grounds events are to be announced shortly, the best way to keep tabs on this is probably through Kickers Instagram.
As we said at the start, we’re big fans of Kickers, and it goes without saying that we’re big fans of good causes too, so this is definitely a winner of a campaign for us.
