As soon as December rolls around there’s some mandatory viewing to be done, and right at the top of this sizeable pile is Home Alone.
Home Alone is great for so many different reasons, and even though it’s a Christmas film, repeated annual viewing never seems to be a chore, and this re-watchability can be accredited almost wholly to the character of Kevin McCallister.
Watching Kevin re-purpose household items in order to antagonize his perpetrators is an absolute pleasure, and we’re firm believers that this fantastic viewing experience is supplemented hugely by his wardrobe.
Across the two films, Kevin stacks up a hefty catalogue of fantastic outfits – his penchant for fine knitwear, bright flannels and patterned bobblehats produce some of the most memorable getups of not just any festive film, but any film ever.
A viewing of Home Alone (for us at least) is almost always followed by a series of frantic online searches for Kevin-inspired garb, spending hours getting lost in the ‘knitwear’ section of every fine retailer East of New York City.
To make this process slightly less arduous, this year we’ve put together a comprehensive list of clobber solely inspired by the young man himself, with all entries courtesy of our friends over at EQVVS.
Right, we’re off for this year’s annual viewing of the masterpiece, merry Christmas you filthy animals.
Carhartt WIP Tridon Jumper
This sweater from Carhartt is almost entirely screen-accurate, even down to the thickness of the ribbing – if it hadn’t been released 34 years later, we could’ve been fooled that it was the real screen-worn thing.
Dickies Plains Coat
For someone who is not of legal age to have a job in the United States, Kevin sure does have a thing for workwear. This Dickies Plains Coat looks pretty close to his iconic work-esque jacket in the original film.
Barbour Lifestyle Case Fairisle Beanie
The quintessential Kevin item is a bobble hat – Mr McCallister is pretty much singlehandedly responsible for the bobble hat revival of the 2000s (Not sure if that’s actually a thing.) Anyway, this Barbour beanie is a sort of cross between the bobble hat he wears in the original and the sequel.
Paul Smith Crew Neck Jumper
Although the second film doesn’t quite live up to its original counterpart, Kevin’s choice of knitwear certainly does. In the sequel he favours a fetching navy knit, that isn’t all that dissimilar to this lovely Paul Smith number.
Carhartt WIP Flint Pants
Kevin’s choice of legwear is very much indicative of his demeanour – relaxed & hardwearing – and for that reason, these Carhartt WIP Flint Pants look like they’d be right up his street
Polo Ralph Lauren Canvas Backpack
When roaming around the Big Apple in Home Alone 2, Kevin is never without his rucksack full of tricks, and this Polo bag looks like it can fit plenty of tricks in it.
Carhartt WIP Watch Gloves
In the creation of this list, we’ve realised that if Kevin was real and all grown up, he’d definitely be well into Carhartt WIP, especially these knitted handwarmers.
Polo Ralph Lauren Plaid Brushed Flannel Shirt
Another Polo entry coming in the form of a lovely flannel shirt – a genre of clothing that Kevin holds dear to his heart. Not much to say about this other than it’s very nice, and happens to be on sale at the moment.
Barbour Lifestyle Blyth Socks
We never get a good look at Kevin’s choice of socks in the film, but we’d be willing to bet that he’d be into these Barbour Lifestyle ones, which make use of the brand’s signature tartan pattern.
Barbour Lifestyle Tisbury Jumper
One of the most iconic items in the character’s long list of memorable rig-outs is his chunky red knit. This Barbour Tisbury Jumper is the same colour, made of lambswool and has very nice ribbed cuffs, what more could you possibly want?
Barbour Lifestyle Yaxley Tartan Scarf
Finishing our list is another tartan item, and can you blame us? This is very nice and definitely suitable for keeping out that cold NYC breeze.
