côte&ciel present aviation inspired Stratus collection

We’ve caved already. We’re getting the bags in.

I know, seems a bit premature, especially given that it’s January, but once again, we’ve given in to peer pressure.

It’s the kind of peer pressure we don’t mind though, and that’s because it comes from côte&ciel announcing their latest collection, titled Stratus. As you’d expect it’s full of lovely products that are ideal for carrying all manner of goods – what did you think we were on about?

The Stratus collection pays tribute to French poet, journalist philosopher and aviator, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, whom head designer Emilie Arnault has used as her conduit for all things inspiration this season.

The title of the collection, Stratus, has been named after the low-slung clouds that linger just above the horizon, referencing the brand’s continued exploration of texture, shape, and contrast.

côte&ciel’s signature interplay between structure and softness is in full effect this season, where forms that appear solid are deceivingly supple, much like clouds themselves.

Aviation cues have been scattered throughout, from the bomber jacket-inspired orange linings in favourites like the ORNE and HYCO S to aerodynamic flourishes in bags such as the rounded ISARAU and ISAR updates.

Coming alongside these old bags (not meant in a derogatory way, promise) côte&ciel have also introduced some new ones.

The MINHO, is a parachute-inspired weekender duffle, although we’d still probably recommend against using it for a skyjacking. The YALU is touted to be the brand’s most sculptural backpack yet.

Then there’s the TIB, a tech-savvy tote, and the UVA, a crossbody bag as adaptable as a pilot in mid-flight. Each style takes on a new life with seasonal materials: textured Carbon, sleek Onyx, and water-repellent Cargo Green and Slate Grey.

This season isn’t just about bags – although there are a fair few of them – it’s a love letter to the act of flight itself. A celebration of the bits in between. The journey. The destination. The infuriating clapping from that one family as the plane lands.

In all seriousness, if you’re in the market for a nice bag, we’d suggest giving these a serious once-over.
