If you’re not clued up on TDR we’ll forgive you, they are newcomers on the block after all. But don’t get it twisted, these lot weren’t born yesterday, they come from good stock and have decades of nice clothes know-how behind them.
That’s because TDR is The Garbstore’s latest creation – a label that combines textiles sourced from Japan’s historic mills with hand-pressed adornments from Japanese jewellery makers NORTH WORKS. So yeah, they know what they’re doing.
This know-what-they’re-doing-ness has been directly instanced in their subsequent release – a denim-centric collection that references vintage workwear silhouettes and their unique textures.
The new denim offerings have been based on how their counterparts would have looked in the ’50s, therefore being of 11 and 12-oz weights at an incredibly high level of quality with thoughtful mends, obscure seams, and considered frays.

The gear has then been subjected to the natural ageing process caused by that big glowing orb in the sky, providing each garment with an organic and unique patina. This isn’t distressed denim for the sake of it; it’s the real deal. This garb has history before you even put it on.
The collection itself is made up of denim jeans (obviously) as well as a series of workwear-influenced jackets, lightweight parkas, tie-fastened shirts, some shorts and even a leather jacket. Basically, there’s loads to go at. And all of it’s nice.
But the collection is less about a clear-cut theme and more about the individual stories. Each piece stands alone, void of excessive branding or overarching concepts. There’s nostalgia, predominantly brought on by the natural ageing process, but also with deadstock laurel studs making a return and a reworked version of last season’s Noragi jacket — now short-sleeved and more in tune with the warmer months ahead.
All too often the ‘fashion’ smorgasbord is populated with clothes that have very little about them, and this is most definitely not that. We’re into it. You should be too.
The latest TDR collection is set to release on Wednesday 29th January, 2024 from The Garbstore.
