There has never been more clothing brands in the world than there is right now, and this can feel exhausting. Every day, the market is becoming more and more saturated, as more and more individuals feel the need to create a run of T-Shirts with a screen-printed logo in an overused typeface.
It can quickly become disheartening to keep up with the ever-growing market of clothing brands, spending hours filtering through the masses to see if you can find a single one actually worth paying attention to.
In this process, you will occasionally come across one that absolutely is, and we’ve recently had the pleasure of this feeling, thanks to Spanish brand, Late Checkout.
Late Checkout is comparable to drinking an Aperol Spritz on a sun-lounger, whilst your mates are all drinking Madri in a Greene King, and this is because they’re doing things slightly different to the rest…
In Late Checkout’s own words, ‘the collections are not really collections at all. They are characters, united only by the liminal space they occupy – The Hotel.’ Each season this Hotel evolves, filling its rooms with new characters, stories and attitudes.
Only for this Spring season at The Hotel, it’s off-season. There are no guests to fill the rooms, and with that, no jobs for the employees. To occupy the endless vacant hours the staff have found their own ways to pass the time, from luggage Jenga to impromptu piƱata duels, from elaborate sandcastles to high-stakes bowling.
Think of it sort of like The Shining, except instead of Jack Torrance losing his marbles, he’s playing them with the hotel staff.
The collection itself reflects the ever-lingering laidback vibe in the hotel through relaxed summer styles in a choice colour palette that has been paired with subtle workwear influences, collegiate-inspired designs, and playful hotel-themed graphics.
The whole concept behind Late Checkout is incredibly vibrant, and so is their garb. So vibrant in fact, trying to describe it through a keyboard would be doing it a gross injustice. Feast your eyes upon the most interesting, Wes Anderson-esque lookbook photography we’ve seen in a long while…
