JACQUEMUS & Timberland shift boat shoe perception from Marmite to mustard

Boat shoes. Definitely not for everyone. Historically, they’ve been a bit Marmite. We’re not living historically, though. We’re living in the here & now, and JACQUEMUS & Timberland have recently joined forces to shift the paradigm from Marmite to mustard. Quite literally…

For their latest link-up, the French fashion house helmed by Simon Porte Jacquemus has taken Timberland’s OG 3-Eye Lug Boat Shoe – a silhouette first birthed in 1978 and usually seen loafing about New England piers -and dipped it head-first into a pot of mustard yellow brilliance. The result? A shoe that feels like it should come with a sun lounger, an Aperol Spritz, and a very healthy Instagram following.

The shoe, named “La Bateau”, does that classic JACQUEMUS thing of making the familiar feel deliciously foreign. It still comes with all the Timberland trimmings you’d expect – premium leather, rugged lug sole, proper comfy lining – but this time it’s been subtly & sublimely styled: square lace-tip eyelets, a co-branded metal lace keeper, and a hue that wouldn’t look out of place in a vintage French television advert.

While Timberland’s usual stomping grounds include festivals & forests, this collab leans much more Mediterranean. It’s sophisticated, but the fun kind of sophisticated. The kind of sophisticated that gets you really pissed on their families thousand year old collection of expensive wine.

Available from April 23rd via jacquemus.com, select JACQUEMUS stores (including their new LA outpost, opening April 24), and a smattering of Timberland stockists.
