Nudie lands in the Northern Quarter

Now on Proper, we bring you the local news, from your area. Well, assuming your local area is the same as ours.

As you’d perhaps expect we’re not here with the type of news you’d see Lucy Meacock and co share, but something a bit more us, and it’ll have the denim aficionados out there salivating down their overalls. You see, the Swedish denim dons at Nudie have just thrown open the doors, and their arms, to the Mancunian masses and as you’d expect from them, it’s looking pretty nice.

This is the first offering from Nudie in the UK, at least outside the capital, which almost doesn’t count. And it’s more than just a place to try on jeans—it’s a brick-and-mortar middle finger to the throwaway culture that prevails in the more mainstream sections of town. At Nudie’s new Oldham Street space in Manchester, you’ll find free repairs for life, recycled denim, trade-ins, and all the circular fashion credentials your conscience can handle. If there’s a garment that lends itself to rinse, repair, recycle, repeat (ok maybe not the rinse) it’s denim.

Impressively, Nudie open stores that show due deference to the local culture, so expect something fitting with the area, not a transplant from Gothenburg via Shoreditch.

In 2025, a shop isn’t really just a place to buy something, but a cultural hub, or at least it should be. As you’d expect from a Swedish brand, there’s a wholesomeness at play and a leaning towards more than just being the most successful business. The idea is simple: make real things, meet real people, and do it all in real life. That’s why the space will also double up as a sort of denim-themed cultural hangout. Live gigs, panel talks, creative workshops—basically anything that makes sense.
