Proper Picks – July 2025

Jesus Christ, it’s hot. It’s so hot that it might be too hot. Putting together this edition of Proper Picks has been a struggle – the thought of wearing anything more than underwear and a t-shirt was making us feel a bit sick, if we’re totally honest.

Don’t worry, though, we’ve pulled through. Gritted our teeth, turned all our fans on and drenched our keyboards in sweat. The result of our turmoil is a 30+ item list of nice clothes you should consider wearing this summer. If it ever cools down. Just a little bit.

Christ, it’s hot.

Goldwin Rip-Stop Hooded Jacket

A lot of people moan about not being able to dress well in the warmer months, but the truth is they’ve just got the wrong mindset. You can still wear jackets, you just need the right ones. Like this highly breathable number from Goldwin.

Creek Angler’s Device Tote Bag

Creek Angler’s Device are doing fishing couture better than anyone right now. The only hitch is it’s pretty hard to get hold of the brand outside of Japan – but somehow, someway, Outsiders Store has worked their magic.

Diemme White Mountaineering Movida

These Diemme x White Mountaineering collab trabs are far too clean. Tremendous colourway, and a midsole big enough to get you through/over just about anything.

Presta94 Cap

If you’re into old mountain bikes and photos of celebrities riding old mountain bikes, you should definitely be following @presta.94. Anyway, they’ve just teased a cap that looks straight from a 1994 downhill race, and I need to get my hands on one.

Dickies 247 Loose Work Trousers

Dickies have recently produced the long awaited solution to their slightly slim, slightly high in the crotch work pants – the new 247 Loose Work Trousers. These have the potential to be really, really good.

Merrell Hydro Next Gen Moc

Merrell’s Hydo Moc might look a bit ugly, but trust me, a pair of these will change your life, especially if you’re big into wild swimming or taking the bins out.

Dave Swindells Acid House Book

This is a mega coffee table book. The kind that mysteriously vanishes after hosting a pre-drinks.

Manastash Hemp Pop Shorts

Manastash proving that making a good pair of shorts isn’t rocket science – it’s pocket science.

Another Aspect Another T-Shirt 3.0

Something about this long-sleeved tee is very calming. Reminds me of the kind of clothes steezy toddlers wore in the early 2000s.

Helinox Chair One

Didn’t truly appreciate the Helinox hype until I put one together and sat on it the other day. Putting it together took 30 seconds, and I sat on it for six hours. Never knew I could be so excited about a chair. 10/10.

Yaeca Indigo Sailor Hat

A very Frank Serpico piece of headwear.

Sassafras Bulbs Of Passion Tee

You cannot beat an obscure phrase styled in green collegiate text on a white tee. This is mega good.

New Balance MIUK 991v2

More green goodness. This is a strong contender for New Balance colourway of the year, and the accompanying pastel blue model is in with a shout for second place as well.

Globe Gilette

The name of these Globe shoes has got me thinking about that Gilette advert on telly at the minute. Probably one of the best adverts we’ve had in recent years, and it’s not even that good. Whatever happened to the golden era of television adverts? Felt like we had iconic adverts coming out of our ears back in the day. Anyway, these are smart shoes. Even smarter if you like doing kickflips.

Estudio Niksen Easy Wind Pants

If, for whatever reason, you decide to wear trousers instead of shorts this summer, make sure it’s nice lightweight flowy trousers like these ones from Estudio Niksen.

Montbell 50th Anniversary Classic Pen Case

Only Montbell could make a pencil case as cool as this.

Everyday Mountaineering Special Kind of Feeling Tee

Our mates over the pond at Everyday Mountaineering have a real eye for producing wearable garments with heaps of character. Case in point: this hemp t-shirt, depicting a Glaswegian thistle.

Vans Premium Authentic

I’m willing to die on the Vans Premium Authentic hill. Shoe of the year.

Spice Girls x Admiral Spiceworld Shirt

Spice Girls x Admiral wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025, but this is undeniably pretty cool. Not sure if I’d have the bottle to wear it like, but still cool.

Big Rock Candy Mountaineering Lost Arrow Notch Pants

A recent trip to Paris opened our team’s eyes to a new, exciting brand – Big Rock Candy Mountaineering. The brand’s whole shtick is outdoor clothing based on early American alpinists & mountaineers. Think bright red knits, small khaki shorts, trucker caps and climbing trousers. Definitely a brand to look out for.

Norda Hydration Flask

The print on this Norda water bottle looks like something a Joy Division tribute band called Happiness Aversion would sell at their gigs.

Goldwin Waffle Light T-Shirt

Waffle fabric is one of God’s great gifts to the world, and Goldwin are putting it to fantastic use here.

Hikerdelic Beach Shorts

Hikerdelic have recently made some no-nonsense Beach Shorts in a variety of nice colours, the pick of the bunch being this lovely yellow.

Merrell 1TRL Moab Slide 2

Three years ago, only your Nan would’ve been spotted in these woven Merrell 1TRL slides, now they’re proper cool. Once again proving that elderly people are well ahead of the curve.

HALO x Messy Weekend Sunglasses NO2

These HALO x Messy Weekend sunglasses look like something Neo would wear to Berghain.

Fjallraven Hoja Cap

Fjallraven have just created an outstanding line of bikepacking gear called Hoja, consisting of frame bags, ponchos, shorts, caps – everything you need to make bikepacking your cool new personality.

Montbell Tempest Jacket

Wearing any kind of waterproof hardshell in this kind of heat is going to turn you into a human boil-in-the-bag rice packet, but this Montbell jacket was too nice not to include. Also, it’s not going to stay hot forever, is it?

District Vision Takeyoshi Altitude Master Sunglasses

If you want to purchase eyewear that is going to make all of your mates very jealous, you should probably get a pair of District Visions. Everything about the sunglasses is premium – the packaging, the lenses, and to some extent, the price tag.

Snow Peak Stretch Pillow

Did you honestly think that Snow Peak had started making whoopee cushions? Come on. Get your head out of the gutter and grow up. It’s a pillow.

Klattermusen Syn Shirt

This beautifully Scandinavian number is proof that Klattermusen are the undisputed champions of technical shirting.

Sofia Coppola Archive

Lost in Translation is one of the best films of all time. Sofia Coppola directed it. Enough said.

Radical Media Archive Nature Resistance Cap

We’re a big fan of the message this cap promotes. Anti-fascist. Pro mountains.

Snow Peak x Merrell Moab Speed 2 GTX

Snow Peak are pretty picky about their collaborations, and we salute them for that. Far, far too many bad collaborations out there, but this joint venture with Merrell is not one of them. Great shoe, great colourway, and it’s GORE-TEX.

goodtimes Explorer Air Shirt

The most obvious way to keep your top half cool this summer is to wear no top at all. Only weapons do that, though. The next best thing is a nice airy shirt, like this one from goodtimes.

Brother Brother Palo Santo Tin

Everything about smoking (apart from lung cancer, emphysema and cardiac arrest) is cool, especially the old ciggy packet designs. No cancer sticks in this Brother Brother tin, though, only beautifully fragrant sticks of wood.

Sedan All-Purpose x Dickies Carpenter Wide Shorts

Jorts are so last year. This year it’s all about korts (khaki shorts, duh.)

Puffa Snoopy Round Trinket Dish

This Puffa Snoopy trinket dish will remind you of the good old days – the days when we weren’t melting in our office chairs and could still wear big coats.

Red Wing Round Toe Boots 9111

Red Wing have worked closely with their Japan team to produce the new 9111 – a boot that has been meticulously modelled on archival Red Wing styles.

Universal Overall Sleeveless Tee

Sleeveless tees could most definitely be the move this summer. Truckdriver core here we come.

ACT BioRip Running Short

Not sure when it was decided, but apparently you can make clothing out of beans now? How mad is that? These shorts have been made from 100% castor beans.

The Outdoor Archive Book

The highly anticipated Outdoor Archive book is here, and from the small amount of content I can make out from retailer photos, it’s very good. If anyone wants to buy me a gift I’ll cherish forever, look no further.

New Balance FuelCell Rebel V5

A very attractive running shoe. So attractive it almost makes me want to go running. Key word, almost.

Field Mag Print Issue 01

At long last, Field Mag has joined us in the wonderful realm of print media. This first edition looks very good, and is no doubt filled with good stories and even better photos.
