Our knowledge of video games here stretches little beyond Football Manager, 8 Ball Pool and the occasional round 11 attempt on Call of Duty Zombies. Gaming isn’t exactly our bread and butter; we can tell you the different hydrostatic heads of all manner of GORE-TEX without breaking a sweat, but ask us anything to do with frame rates and we’ll begin to lag.
What does pique our interest, though, is when video games cross the virtual boundary into the realm of clothing. Not on about those weird ‘I can’t hear you I’m gaming‘ tees you get from HMV – more so those early ’00s Counter Strike single stitch sweatshirts. To celebrate the PlayStation 5 release of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II – which, if you’re not familiar (as we weren’t) is a visually stunning, but terrifying trip through Viking-age darkness – Xbox Game Studio, Ninja Theory have teamed up with the brand Passarella Death Squad, to produce a capsule collection that looks like it stepped out of the game’s dreamscape and straight into your wardrobe.
To simply label this release as video game merchandise would be abhorrent; it’s most definitely a fashion capsule – made up of four tees, two long-sleeved tees, four jackets, four sweats, and one short-sleeved shirt. All of which have been made in England, using premium Japanese and English fabrics. Haunting visuals have been reimagined through Passarella’s darkly cinematic lens – a brand that’s been effortlessly fusing music, art and fashion since 2004.
In theory, it’s video games imagined on fabric, but in reality, it couldn’t be any further from the ill-fitting digital print hoodies spotted in your local CEX. Once again, this isn’t our usual bag, but best believe you’ll be hearing from us when that Passarella x Football Manager collaboration finally drops.
