If you’ve been keeping up with END. recently, you’ll know they’ve been on a mad 20th anniversary tear, releasing a whole wealth of collaborations drawing inspiration from a plethora of interesting different things. Just the other week, they were ravaging the offies’ soft drink fridges for their Corner Shop Collaboration series. But now it would appear they’ve turned their attention – perhaps out of guilt – to something slightly healthier. Avocados.
That’s right END. have now taken a trip to their local greengrocer. But not just any greengrocer. This one specialises entirely in avocados. And trail running shoes.
In their conquest of the healthiest of fats, the retailer has once again partnered with long-time French pals Salomon, this time on a new XT-Whisper Void. The shoe takes its cues from the mighty green miracle that’s somehow both the cornerstone of brunch culture and a recurring topic in those ‘millennials can’t buy houses’ rants from your dodgy uncle.
The colours on this XT-Whisper are straight from the fruit bowl: a deep, almost-black green rind wrapping round to lighter Lime Cream panels, similar to what you’re greeted with when you crack open an expensive farmers market avocado – not the usual brown mushy disappointment you get from Sainsbury’s. Salomon’s semi-translucent Agave Green overlays have been paired with a 3D Mesh upper, and abrasion-resistant TPU bits provide a hardened exterior.
Salomon’s signature Quicklace system is present for easy on-and-off, and the chevron-lugged Contagrip® outsole means you can actually use these trabs for something more adventurous than walking to the very same Sainsbury’s.
A pink OrthoLite® sockliner nods cheekily to smoked salmon – the avocado’s natural brunch-time companion -and the insole features an actual avocado print, in case you needed reminding what inspired all this in the first place.
They’re a nice-looking pair of trainers, and if you’re something of an avocado-fanatic, they’re basically a must have.
