September is finally upon us, and with it has come a shedload of moisture. Rain, puddles – the lot. We’re not entirely sure what September said to the sunshine, but it must’ve been pretty unpalatable, because it looks like it’s not coming back anytime soon.
But every cloud has a silver lining… and as UV Rays and shorts begin to shuffle out of our ecosystem, jackets, fleece, sweatshirts, and joggers begin to shuffle in. Pretty soon, we’ll all be matching our footwear to the colour of the leaves on the ground, and you know what? We’re pretty excited for it.
To help you get through this patch of transitional weather – the kind where we experience four seasons in a day – we’ve put together a list of 40+ items. Enjoy.

Imagine eating a load of Kinder Buenos while climbing Kinder Scout, wearing a Rab Kinder Smock. Must be an absolutely godly experience.

Ray-Ban Mega Wayfarer Sunglasses
Ok so there’s a bit of rain on the ground but these aren’t a seasonal item no matter what you think. These are a lifetime product, one you’ll return to year on year. And not only are they Ray-Ban’s iconic Wayfarer model, they’re MEGA WAYFARER.

Cafe Mountain Foray Popover Smock
Anyone who has even a whiff of an idea about Proper’s history knows that a smock is a bit of an archetype for us. This Cafe Mountain Foray Popover Smock is therefore setting off our radar in a big way.

RRL Corduroy Bill Oilcloth Ball Cap
Every time I look at RRL stuff, I think ‘How come I don’t own any of this fantastic product?‘ Then I look at the price and remember why.

These Creek shoes toe the line between super cool and ASDA issue warehouse worker pumps pretty closely.

Purple Mountain Observatory x Vibram Calyx Camp Shoe
Half trail shoe, half slipper? Whatever they are, Purple Mountain Observatory have absolutely smashed their first piece of footwear out of the park. These things are fantastic.

Nike ACG Cruise Boat Graphic Tee
Very nice retro-inspired Nike ACG graphic tee. Wouldn’t be surprised if you saw this listed on Depop for £300 in a couple of years’ time.

If you’re not onto the South Korean brand and retailer Khakis, get onto them. Loads of tastefully executed bits, like these sumptuous cord pants.

Pop Trading Company Denim Jacket
This denim jacket makes me want to drink a load of Budweiser and smoke Marlboro Reds. Both those commodities could fit comfortably inside the massive pockets on the front of the jacket. I’d probably use the left one for Budweiser, and the right for my Marlboros.

XShot Insanity Smoking Blaster
I thought putting this in would be funny. It’s not really, though, is it? Just childish.

Ben Sherman House Tape Track Top
Big fan of this Ben Sherman Track Top. If there were ever a British remake of The Sopranos, best believe they’d all be wearing these.

Folk Interiors Quilted Bean Bag
This might look like a giant unripe banana, but it’s not. It’s actually a beautiful quilted bean bag from Folk Interiors.

Battenwear Batten-Down Parka V.2
Have you heard the good news? Big jackets are officially back. And to mark this momentous occasion, we’ve been drooling over this Battenwear Batten-Down Parka for a few hours now. Lovely pockets, lovely hood, lovely shaped baffles, and a whole lot of down.

Everyday Mountaineering Basecamp Sweats
It doesn’t matter where you call basecamp, these Everyday Mountaineering sweats look mega, mega cosy. Bonus points for the colourful drawstrings.

Snow Peak Garment Dyed Convertible Shirt
When going through a midlife crisis, most men will buy a convertible car, but we actually reckon it’s a much better idea to buy one of these convertible shirts from Snow Peak. A lot cheaper, and cooler.

Saturday Project Coordinates Cap
Somebody who shall not be named recently swanned into the Proper office wearing this cap, and I’m pretty jealous about it.

Not entirely sure what Natural favourite means, but it certainly looks good plastered across the front of an ecru sweatshirt.

These Primus Campfire Chopsticks split in half for extra packability. Kind of like a little pair of snooker cues that you can eat noodles with.

OTW by Vans X Engineered Garments Classic Slip-On
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Vans & Engineered Garments are back with another solid pair of everyday shoes.

I’d like to space out on the floor and play Boards of Canada’s ‘Music Has the Right to Children‘ album through this speaker on full volume.

Taion Military Zip Reversible Parka
Although Taion are revered for their down products, their non-down products are equally good, as instanced by this beautiful reversible parka.

Montbell 50th Anniversary California Daypack
Beautifully basic Montbell backpack. This thing is special.

There’s definitely something HOKA-esque about the new Nike Vomero Plus – not that that’s a bad thing, they look mega.

Filson Lightweight Down Jac-Shirt
This Filson Down Shirt looks like something you’d see Harrison Ford wearing in one of our Instagram moodboards, and for that reason, it’s probably my favourite item on the list.

Is it shameful to plug our own magazine? Most definitely yes, but we’re actually pretty proud of it. Loads of words and pictures about nice things that you’ll probably like.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say Adsum x Khakis might just be the best collaboration of 2025. Highly potent, highly wearable garments, and this Chore Jacket is the pick of the bunch.

Quiet Mountain Cafe 5 Year Anniversary Shirt
Despite having existed for five years now, we still have no clue where the hell Quiet Mountain Cafe is.

Ferm Living Athens Stripes Rug
Everyone knows that the best way to breathe new life into an old space is to whack a cosy rug down, like this Ferm Living one.

Let’s not kid ourselves, Patagonia are never going to make a Retro-X jacket as good as the ones from the ’90s. But, with that said, this is the closest I’ve seen them come so far.

If you’re one of those lowloft weirdos who enjoys wearing down jackets that look like they’ve been under a rolling pin, you’re not going to like this Goldwin jacket one iota.

If you’re the mate who always forgets their wallet and haggles over a couple of pennies, we’d advise against wearing this Haglofs backpack. Just to protect yourself from any totally warranted ridicule.

Danny D’s Mud Shop Two Riders Vase
Don’t be asking for a refund when your plants start talking in a thick Texan drawl.

Mammut Glacier Glow IN Hooded Jacket
It’s easy to get carried away with weird and wonderful down jackets, but sometimes you just need a big coat that has big wearability. And this Mammut Glacier Jacket is exactly that.

Merrell 1TRL Moab Speed 2 GORE-TEX
Currently writing this with these on my feet, and guess what? My toes are bone dry. I’m sat in an office with a roof over it, but even if I wasn’t, they’d still be dry. God bless GORE-TEX.

Big Halloween vibes from this Hersesy Pullover. Probably should’ve waited a month to put it in the October Proper Picks, to be fair.

Wax London Felix Vintage 90s Blue Wash Loose Fit Jeans
It’s tough to describe jeans through the internet, so you’re just going to have to take my word for it – these Wax London Jeans are very, very nice.

Sleep is just about the most important thing in the world, isn’t it? Not something you should be compromising on, and for that reason, this HAY Sleep Mask would be a sensible purchase.
