That’s right, Merrell 1TRL & Dime MTL back together again. Just hearing those two names in the same sentence should send chills down your spine. You know it’s about to go down, but you never quite know how it’s going to go down.
If you cast your mind back to November 2024, you’ll remember the pair’s last link-up resulted in some suave colourways of the Moc Speed Streak. So suave in fact that they were shot against the backdrop of a red carpet. But this time around, things couldn’t be more different. No red carpets, no suits, no papparazzi. The duo have ditched the elevated formal styling for something much more mad. Something that looks a little bit like the culmination of a toddler juiced up on Tangfastics meeting a mad scientist. In the best possible way.
The canvas for this collaboration is Merrell 1TRL’s Cham Redux, a recent addition to the brand’s roster that takes direct inspiration from the cult classic Chameleon model. Well, it would appear Dime heard one mention of a chameleon, and that was it. Their mind was made up, this collaboration shoe had to look as close to a chameleon as possible, and we reckon they’ve pretty much nailed it.
Two colourways of the Cham Redux are on offer – Blaze, a total explosion of neon hues, shifting from apricot near the midsole to a bright fuchsia by the time it reaches the laces. They’re head turners, for sure. Not for the faint-hearted. But if you were after something slightly more lowkey, Dime have got that covered with the Black Sesame colourway, which switches apricot and fuchsia for dark grey and cream.
The campaign visuals are almost as mad as the trainers themselves, and we’re still scratching our heads as to whether the chameleons they’ve used were actually real. Knowing Dime, they probably were.
It’s fast becoming one of our favourite repeat collaborations of the calendar year, and this release proves exactly why. You’re never quite sure what you’re going to get, but you can always be certain that it’s going to be fun, exciting and undoubtedly a bit mental.
