The landscape of retail is changing. Gone are the days when stores could get by with cranking out relentless discounts and having clean toilets. Nowadays, clothing stores need to be an extension of their founders’ personalities, a place where people can go and hang out, without having a store assistant tapping a stopwatch behind them.
Visiting a good clothing store should be as much a part of someone’s routine as going to their preferred coffee shop or favourite pub. It’s a place people should feel comfortable in and gain inspiration from, even when they’re not purchasing anything.
If you want our opinion, this change is undoubtedly for the better, because it allows places like Pick Store to flourish.
If you’re not yet acquainted with Pick Store, we’ll give you the lowdown. Founded by siblings Dan & Allisya Pickles (Yes, that’s their real surname), the store functions as a place for customers to purchase innovative homeware, apparel and accessories, all curated through the siblings’ personal vision of Japanese and East Asian culture and fashion. It’s one of those stores where each tiny detail has been acutely considered, right down to the font size on the shop window.
As with all good retailers, Pick Store has produced their own seasonal editorial for AW25, detailing the founder’s favourite bits from brands like Still by Hand & Product Twelve. It’s cosy, wholesome and a beautiful blueprint for autumnal layering. Top marks for whoever the stylist was.
Unlike previous Pick Store editorials, this season’s demonstrates an even more discerning view than usual. Smart, sleek looks have been put together with collars and knitwear at the forefront, producing the kind of outfits you could get away with wearing in just about any kind of scenario. Office. Pub. Evening date. Etc. etc.
As much as we can try to paint a picture in your minds, you’re much better off looking at the images with your own two eyes. And once you’ve done that, you should head over to Pick Store to view their full AW25 collection. Then you may as well give them a follow on Instagram, too.
And if you ever find yourself in the Capital, it would be silly not to drop in and experience everything we’ve talked about firsthand:
