Winter dog walk with KHAKIS

We were recently surfing the web. Searching high and low for new retailers & clothing brands. A task we try to do every month or so. Usually, we’ll come across plenty of things we don’t like, and a small number of things we do.

But this time was different; we were only finding things we didn’t like. The market was dry; no matter how much we altered our search terms, everything we came across was boring.

We were just about ready to return to our ‘real work’ empty-handed until we came across something. A South Korean retailer called KHAKIS.

We found that KHAKIS stocks lots of nice brands – Adsum, KEEN, Montbell, & New Balance, just to name a few – but what got us really, really excited was the retailer’s own clothing line. Unlike some retailers’ brands that are retrofitted as a poor afterthought, KHAKIS truly stands on its own two feet. The brand manages to take heritage-inspired silhouettes and reimagine them in a wealth of genuinely premium fabrics, through a design language that riffs beautifully between Ivy style, retro outdoor, & ’90s prep garb.

It’s sort of like if vintage J.Crew, Patagonia & Ralph Lauren all had a love child together. We’re not joking when we say it’s the most excited we’ve been to find a new brand in quite a long while.

We did think about gatekeeping KHAKIS for a hot minute, but instead, we’ve decided to put together a few of our favourite items from the brand. Reimagined in the context of a winter dog walk.

KHAKIS Nomad Down Parka

One of the big reasons we’ve taken such a liking to KHAKIS, is their obvious appreciation of big coats. Look at this thing, like a massive chocolate-toned work of art. Beautifully sized baffles, massive pockets, and brass coloured buttons. Everything that a big coat should be.

KHAKIS Denim Painter Pant

More proof that Carhartt aren’t the only brand that knows their way around a denim painter’s pant. Lovely wash, and an even better fit. Just mind your hound doesn’t rub up next to them after he’s rolled in his own biological waste.

KHAKIS Bush Wool Sweater

Take one look at this knit, and you’ll see that KHAKIS’s attention to detail is second to none, right down to the shade of flecking and leather-covered buttons. Absolutely sublime.

KHAKIS Brushed Plaid Shirt

Another timeless garment that absolutely screams winter dog walk. The plaid on this shirt is in a beautiful cream/royal blue colour, which we think would layer effortlessly beneath the above wool sweater, for a kind of cosy history teacher look.

KHAKIS Harbor Beanie

We can’t speak for South Korea, but the weather in the UK is properly cold right now. The kind of cold that requires serious dome insulation, and this Harbor Beanie looks like it would do the job nicely.

Danner Mountain Light

KHAKIS don’t make their own footwear yet, so we’ve had to draft a pair of Danner Mountain Lights for this dog walk. Hardwearing, robust and quite possibly the most beautiful looking boot ever made.

Border Collie

And we’ve decided that the dog we’re walking today is a Border Collie. Slightly mental, very friendly, but most importantly, it looks like it would complement the outfit nicely. Name suggestions welcome.
