Fun is up, you lot. Just as we’ve collectively dusted off a hangover from New Year’s Eve, we’ve been thrust back to the cold, harsh reality of regular life. And it looks like somebody told the weather a similar thing – January has arrived with some absolutely baltic conditions. Sub-zero temps, snow everywhere, and elderly folk slipping and sliding all about the gaff.
You probably don’t need us to tell you that January is a pretty bleak month – no money, no fun, and not much to look forward to either. The best thing we can prescribe is turning the radiators up to max (worry about the heating bill later) and indulging in this lovely new edition of Proper Picks. Filled with lots of lovely warm things.

Frizmworks Thunderbird Cowichan Cardigan
The current sub-zero British temperatures have got us looking toward cosy style icons like Jeff Bridges’ character in The Big Lebowski, and this Frizmworks cardigan undoubtedly looks The Dude certified.

and Wander have got us hook, line and sinker here – beautiful corduroy cap in an even more beautiful-er mustard colour.

This might be labelled as a dog toy, but the pooches can move over. we want this for our office. Barbour, if you’re reading this – please send us some.

Isola Press Further Adventures in Rough Stuff
If you enjoy looking at photos of slightly balding middle-aged men riding bicycles up, across and through mountains, back in the day, this is the coffee table book for you.

The weather we’re currently experiencing warrants the largest kinds of coats imaginable, and fortunately, Adsum have dreamt big with this beautiful Field Parka.

Pretty sure these were in the last edition of Proper Picks, and if they weren’t, they should’ve been. Absolute belters.

Groundtruth x Ocean Bottle RIKR Bottle Bag
You know those occasions when a backpack is too much, but pockets aren’t enough? Yeah, the Ground Truth Bottle Bag is the solution to that. Large enough to carry a 1L water bottle + a few other bits in a handy zip pocket, but with such little heft you’ll forget you’re ever wearing it.

Snow Peak Washable Wool Knit Gloves
I’d trade pretty much anything for a toasty pair of gloves like these right now. Fingertips are just about ready to freeze to my keyboardddddd dddddddddd ddddddd dd d

Orslow 60/40 Coverall Hooded Jacket
Properly nice, this. The kind of thing that Liam Gallagher will wear any day now, and it’ll then subsequently sell out.

Beams Plus Takata Flat Denim Pouch
Sure, this Beams Plus pouch looks nice, but the most exciting prospect is what you could keep inside of it… Coins? Rizlas? Seaglass? A strange medley of all three? Endless possibilities.

thisisneverthat Nylon Balaclava
Wearing standalone hoods is going to be the defining fashion trend of 2026, mark my words.

This Nanga jacket looks pretty similar to that parka Harrison Ford wears in The Fugitive. (A compliment of the highest degree)

We’ll let you in on a little secret: you don’t have to own a pair of Paraboots to own a Paraboot Polisher Brush. Sort of like how some Scousers wear those Mercedes caps when their only form of transport is a leccy bike.

Massively underappreciated silhouette. In our eyes, it’s one of the finest models from the Terra range, and this colourway is absolutely bursting with ’90s nostalgia.

Norse Projects Birkholm Solotex Fatigue Vest
This Norse Projects vest treads the fine line between functional outerwear and football pundit couture. Fortunately, it falls just on the right side of it. The side that Jamie Carragher isn’t on, just to be clear.

There comes a time in every person’s life when they want to start wearing wool pants. Your author has just reached that stage in his life.

Big Rock Candy Mountaineering Gator 2.0 Backpack
Climbing packs from the 1970s are an absolute marvel to look at, especially from a design perspective. And that’s exactly what has inspired this Big Rock Candy Mountaineering Backpack. So, so good.

No one does this shade of orange/yellow/mango better than our pals at Montbell. And we’re not interested in listening to anyone that says otherwise.

Long before energy gels and Strava were invented, outdoor enthusiasts fuelled themselves by chomping down a load of intensely sugary Kendal Mint Cake. And that’s exactly what has inspired the graphic on this Cafe Mountain tee.

We’d be willing to bet that the blokes at Adsum have a handful of old Patagonia catalogues lying around their office – this shirt (and its pockets) absolutely stink of peak ’80s outdoor gear design.

adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra 2
We recently took these lovely runners to the French Alps to field test them, and it got pretty vertical, pretty quickly. Somehow, they still managed to hold their own. More about that in Issue 51 of our magazine.

Ever since we first laid eyes on Norrona’s viking-figured logo, we’ve been a fan of their gear, and this beautiful orange shell jacket is a prime example of why.

Norse Projects + Paraboot The Ravn
What a colossal link up this has proved to be. Norse Projects tasked Paraboot with creating an ultimate low-hiker silhouette, and the result is this – The Ravn. Understated, classy, and highly capable.

Houdini has labelled this beanie as the Big Hat – take one look at the size of the ribbing to see they’ve not taken any liberties with their choice of name.

END. x Montane Kamen XT Jacket
Appearing as a cloud, and weighing not much more than one, the END. x Montane Kamen XT Jacket is a complete celebration of the North East. Brown ale and chicken parmos not included.

Fred Perry Tennis Badge Graphic T-Shirt
A wise man once said that there are only three things worth gambling on: the sun going down, the moon coming up, and Fred Perry making lovely graphic tees.

If they ever decide to remake Cool Runnings (and honestly, we hope they don’t), we’d like to see this colourway of the PUMA H-Street involved.

Surf Shacks Vol. 2: A New Wave Of Coastal Living
We’ve spent a lot of today dreaming about living in a nice warm surf shack, and that’s why this book is closing out our list.
