Convincing yourself to get outside in January is hard. It’s cold, wet, often snowy, and the only thing more depleted than your motivation is the amount of daylight currently on offer. Doing anything beyond curling up on the sofa and nursing a box of leftover Christmas Quality Streets requires a level of resolve we’re not entirely sure we possess. And if you were hoping we’d provide you with some, we’re sorry to disappoint.
That said, if you’re looking for a gentle nudge, we do have a suggestion. Put on some bird-chirping sounds (the ten-hour version, ideally) and take a look at what brands are quietly preparing for the seasons ahead. Because while January might feel like a cold, dark dead end, it’s also when the outlines of spring start to take shape.
One brand already pointing its compass forward to sunnier days is Fjällräven. For Spring/Summer 2026, the Swedish outfitter is turning its attention to lightweight trekking.
For Fjällräven, lightness has never simply been about reducing weight. It’s about moving through nature in the most comfortable way possible. Choosing materials and tech that support the journey rather than distract you from it. Lightweight is a principle that has shaped the brand since the very beginning.
And when we say the very beginning, we mean the very beginning. Back in 1960, founder Åke Nordin introduced Fjällräven’s very first product: the LÄTT backpack. Designed to be lighter without compromising on durability or function, it set the standard for a brand built on forward-thinking design and long-term performance. More than six decades later, that same mindset guides Fjällräven’s approach to SS26.
Coming front and centre of the lightweight trekking collection is the award-winning Kajka X-Lätt backpack – a streamlined reworking of the iconic Kajka. By combining reduced weight with robust construction, the Kajka X-Lätt reinforces the idea that lighter gear doesn’t have to mean flimsy. It’s built to move effortlessly through the outdoors and built to last while doing so.
Accompanying the pack, the Keb Lätt collection extends this ideology into apparel. Designed for trekkers looking to reduce the overall weight of their kit, the new range focuses purposeful construction and dependable performance. The result is gear that offers protection, breathability and freedom of movement – supporting long days out on the trail without unnecessary bulk.
Together, Kajka X-Lätt and the Keb Lätt line underline Fjällräven’s long-standing commitment to lightweight trekking. And while January may still be cold, dark, and unaccommodating, it’s at least a reminder that lighter days – and lighter gear – are on the horizon.
