After 16 years of Proper Magazine, you’d think we’d know everything about every single brand on the planet. But that’s not the case. Each day, we seem to find new brands. Some bad, some weird, some pointless, some confusing and occasionally some good ones too – MAGIC STICK is one of the latter.
From what we can tell, MAGIC STICK is loosely inspired by the live entertainment industry, while simultaneously having nothing to do with it at all. Aside from their microphone logo, you won’t find any other traces of comedy, theatre or the catwalk – we apologise if you were expecting a collection filled with bowler hats and novelty moustaches.
What you will find from MAGIC STICK’s AW26 preview, though, is a wealth of top-notch garb – ranging from jackets & pullovers to graphic tees and vintage-inspired headwear.
We’re a big fan of the seemingly sailing-inspired smock, and its cream colour with red arm tab. It’s a bit like if ’90s Prada Sport booked a flight to Tokyo and then sailed around the length of Japan. Another outerwear standout is a sort of insulated collared jacket, available in black or a tremendous chocolate colour.
Shirting is another strong point of the collection, with everything from double chest pocketed overshirts to techy 3/4 zip pullovers. It’s evident just from the AW26 preview alone that MAGIC STICK know how to blend modern outdoor-inspired garments with a more traditional design language. Classic menswear-inspired staples like pinstripe pants are worn with technical outerwear in a way that only Japanese brands seem to be able to.
And perhaps our favourite item of all is the smallest in size. MAGIC STICK’s headwear always hits the spot, and this season’s Land Rover-inspired cap is one of the best accessories we’ve seen in a long while. Available in every shade from bright blue to classic forest green.
As for the preview’s styling, it’s resoundingly strong, yet restrained. Models are typically dressed in monochrome black or white outfits, placing an emphasis on the garments’ shape, fit and structure as opposed to individual details.
All in all, it’s looking to be a big winter season for MAGIC STICK, and we’re keen to find out more about each of the garments as and when the information becomes available. Rest assured we’ll be sharing it with you too – whether you like it or not.
