Maharishi reimagines Mizuno icon in katana-wielding collaboration

There are only a handful of brands that will never not be cool, and Maharishi is one of them. The brand’s infamous Snopants had everyone in a chokehold from the day they were created, and by the year 2000, they were crowned ‘the most copied pants of the decade.’

In the 26 years since, Maha have drilled down on what made the Snopant such an icon in the first place: great fabrics, military-grade detailing, and that signature embroidery that turned a functional pant into a streetwear phenomenon.

And now that same style of embroidery – the one that depicted pictures of lions, tigers, and battle scenes on the back of people’s calves across the nation – has found a new canvas, in the form of a new Mizuno collab.

Maharishi and Mizuno’s partnership is the latest in a lineage of collaborations. Previously, Maharishi have worked their magic on the Daichi LS and the Wave Mujin, but this time they’ve turned their attention to a true Mizuno heavyweight – the Wave Prophecy LS.

The Wave Prophecy LS is undoubtedly one of Mizuno’s most intriguing creations. An almost entirely hollow midsole bonded to an aggressive-looking upper comprised of leather, textile and plastic. The silhouette looks like something you’d wear if you were a ninja in the year 2084.

For the Maharishi rendition, the Wave Prophecy LS’s textile upper has been swapped out for a mix of premium leather, suede, mesh, and TPU, all sitting atop the very same unmistakable midsole. It’s a subtle reimagining that keeps everything we love about the Wave Prophecy LS intact.

But that subtlety ends at the tongue. Maharishi have stitched a dragon face embroidery right into the premium leather – nodding to the brand’s long-standing use of symbolism and, of course, that embroidery legacy first made famous on the Snopants. Reflective 3M hits and a structural TPU cage round things out, balancing utility with something a bit more expressive.

And as for the campaign visuals, apparently Maharishi feels the same way about the futuristic-ninja-like qualities of the Wave Prophecy LS, documenting it on the foot of a katana-carrying street bandit.

All in all, it’s another beautifully considered link in what is fast becoming one of our favourite ongoing footwear collaborations. Great silhouette, nice materials, and that signature Maharishi embroidery – exquisite.

The Maharishi x Mizuno Wave Prophecy LS is set to launch on Friday, 27th March from Maharishi
