We know (and love) Fera for stomping through mud-laden fields, casting lines into chalk streams, and slogging across wind-lashed moorland. But even the most steadfast British outdoor dweller deserves a break from the eternal drizzle now and then – and that’s exactly what Fera has decided to take.
Their need for respite has led them on the search for something coastal. Margate, Newquay, Bournemouth, Salcombe, Tenby, Scarborough – maybe even Barry Island. We’re not quite sure on the specifics, but you can guarantee it’s somewhere populated only by the sound of seagull laughter and the clattering of coins from a nearby arcade.
And in true Fera fashion, they haven’t packed light. SS26 Drop 2 sees the brand unveil a whole host of garb influenced solely by the traditional British holiday. Cones of chips, water pistols, inflatable beach toys, skin peeling sunburn – the lot.
Right at the heart & centre of the collection is the Saltmarsh knit: thick, dependable, and engineered for the kind of breezes that turn holiday dads nipples into glass cutters. It’s spun from cotton, blended with recycled synthetic fibres, giving it an edge of resilience. It looks easygoing, but there’s intention in it – as always with Fera.
Then there’s the Cuban Collar Shirt, which wouldn’t look out of place at a faded seafront dance hall, and the Zephyr Jacket, light enough for bright mornings but ready for when the weather inevitably pivots. Both are cut from a richly textured dobby cloth sourced from a 78 year old mill based out of Osaka, Japan. And for those who like their storytelling stitched rather than spelt, the short-sleeve Embroidered Dune Shirt carries a subtle tonal fishing boat at the hem.
And how could we forget? There’s a brand new Wading Vest – and it’s absolutely excellent.
What makes this drop really work is its balance. There’s humour in the visuals – nods to deckchairs, sunburn, inflatable chaos and super soakers – but it doesn’t once fall into the realm of costume. From headwear through to fine tailoring, it’s a cohesive wardrobe designed for salt in the air, sand in your trainers and vinegar dancing on the tip of your tongue.
All in all, it’s a holiday wardrobe primed to leave the rest of the punters as green as the Channel on a choppy day – hats off to the Fera lads once again. Go steady in the arcade, slap on the suncream, and don’t be shy when it comes to the £1.99 Fosters.
