SEVENSTORE heads to the green for golfing editorial

Over the past decade, we’ve covered just about every pastime you can lace up boots for on Proper. Hiking, fishing, football, climbing, sailing – even birdwatching – if it involves fresh air and a bit of enthusiasm, we’ve probably had a go at it. And yet, somehow, one pursuit has quietly evaded us. Golf.

Maybe it’s the fact that no one in the office quite knows the difference between a birdie & a bogey, or perhaps it’s that Manchester’s weather systems positively try to ruin any patch of well-kept grass, but golf is an activity we’ve left relatively untouched.

Even with our collective naivety around putters, drivers, and the baffling pecking order of four-, five- and six-irons, we can still recognise that golf is well worth discussing for the garb alone – particularly when you look back at the sport’s golden era.

In the ’90s, courses weren’t awash with drab quarter-zips and corporate slim-fit chinos. They were a runway for rollnecks, wildly patterned polos, generously pleated khakis, and some of the finest V-necks to ever grace a fairway. We didn’t quite appreciate the sheer levels of style at the time, but there’s clearly been a collective awakening to ’90s golf garb. Scroll through Instagram now, and it’s a steady procession of Tiger Woods, John Daly, and Fred Couples turning up in just about every “golf fashion appreciation” post going.

And joining us in the collective awakening is SEVENSTORE. The retailer has been quietly nodding to the sport for a while now – most notably through stocking the likes of Metalwood – but 2026 marks the year it makes that appreciation official. This season, SEVENSTORE steps properly onto the fairway with two new golf-centric additions to its roster: Manors and Malbon.

To tee off the arrival of the two brands, SEVENSTORE sent them out for a leisurely nine holes as part of a recent editorial. And judging by the vintage of the lads involved, they’ll be more than familiar with the golden era of golf we’ve been waxing lyrical about – an age of bold knits, bigger trousers, and socks pulled up to the knees.

The editorial follows the journey of two old boys as they make their journey across the course, encountering questionable weather, questionable form and questionable sandwiches along the way.

What isn’t up for debate, though, are the outfits the pair have been shot in. Malbon and Manors take centre stage, serving up a heady mix of khaki, camouflage and punchy stripes.

Underfoot, things are just as curated, with Asics and Salomon in rotation – delivering the sort of traction you’d hope for on the green, with more than enough style to carry things well beyond it.

When the putting, driving, and whatever else you do in golfing is all said and done, the two lads head into a course-side café, no doubt arguing about who cheated and who holds the prize of the longest drive in between rounds of piping hot tea and cling-film wrapped sarnies.

The editorial delivers a run of playful visuals, with the two seasoned gents front and centre, but it never tips into parody. The reason’s simple: they’re dressed impeccably. Add a touch more grain and you could easily mistake the shots for long-lost relics now doing the rounds on one of those aforementioned ’90s golf mood boards.

That level of style is owed almost entirely to Malbon and Manors. Between them, they’re quietly reshaping what golf looks like—nudging it away from the corporate rinse of safe quarter-zips and tech slacks, and steering it back toward the expressive, personality-driven golden era we’ve become mildly obsessed with… despite never having actually played a round ourselves.

Because when you strip it back, golf isn’t all that different from hiking, climbing, fishing, sailing or even birdwatching. At their core, they’re all just well-disguised excuses to get out into the natural world with your mates, blow off a bit of steam, and – most importantly – assemble an outfit you’d be perfectly happy to be paparazzi’d in.

With that in mind, here’s some of our favourite golf-appropriate pieces for sale right now on SEVENSTORE:

Manors – Tour Mid Layer Shirt

Manors proving they know full well that beige will forever be the unofficial colour of the golf course. Aside from aesthetics, this shirt looks lightweight, breathable, and almost guaranteed to add half a foot to your drive.

Manors – Golf Club Polo Shirt

Striped polo shirts are an absolute essential in all of the greatest golf ensembles. We’re a big fan of the forest green colour and positively relaxed fit of this polo.

Malbon Golf – Tour Divot Camo Rain Jacket

Whoever said golf attire wasn’t exciting? This Malbon rain jacket is absolutely mental, in the best way possible.

Manors – Recycled Greenskeeper Pant

Historically, golf has delivered some of the best-fitting trousers in sport – and these recycled Greenskeeper Pants show that Manors understand that legacy well.

Malbon Golf – Tour Divot Camo Snapback

Clearly, Malbon have gone big on camo this season, and who can blame them? This is a phenomenal piece of headwear.

Malbon Golf – Performance Ribbed Panel Gilet

And of course, we couldn’t forget gilets. For decades, golf and cycling have quietly battled for custodianship of this sleeveless staple. But if brands like Malbon keep turning out vests like this, golf might finally edge ahead.
