We can’t get enough of ripstop – you know the beautiful, tear-resistant wonder fabric originally developed for military use. Given ripstop’s durability and resistance properties, there’s really no reason it shouldn’t be used in everything from jumpers and socks to school uniforms. Had it been, it would’ve saved countless shirts from being shredded in the first place – and prevented endless tellings-off from furious mothers reluctantly stitching them back together at the kitchen table.
Now, we’re not entirely sure if someone at Uskees HQ feels the same way us us about ripstop, or whether they simply had a particularly unforgiving school playground, but they’ve just dropped an entirely ripstop capsule – headed by a ripstop version of their signature 3001 Overshirt.
Inspired by 20th-century worker jackets, the 3001 Overshirt has become Uskees’ most important and desirable calling card. Its three-pocket, button-down, collared construction already makes it an endlessly wearable staple. But this new Ripstop version pushes those wearability levels further than ever before.
The gridded fabric construction adds a serious layer of resilience without compromising on comfort. So, if your job or favourite hobby comes with a higher-than-average risk of scuffs and snags, this one’s for you. And even if it doesn’t, a bit of extra protection never hurts.
And Uskees haven’t stopped at only reworking their most iconic piece. They’ve implemented Ripstop across a whole slew of silhouettes, extending its durability into trousers, shorts, and a particularly fetching Field Jacket.
The jacket in particular doubles down on its military heritage, borrowing not only Ripstop from the armed-service locker, but also its broader construction language and full spread of front-facing utility pockets. Creating something that feels completely at home in day-to-day life, yet is still unmistakably rooted in garments once designed for genuine battlefield use.
And what really tops off this already impressive capsule collection is Uskees’ fantastic campaign visuals. They’ve got that unmistakable ‘90s lookbook style of photography – the kind seen from Stüssy’s golden era – a reference point we’re constantly revisiting on Proper Mag’s Instagram.
All in all, it’s a highly impressive drop, built entirely around one of our favourite fabrics in existence. The logical next step, surely, is to roll this kind of hard-wearing kit out across schools in Britain – eradicating shredded playground shirts and scuffed elbows once and for all.
