There’s a tangible magic to some football shirts. Some may dismiss them as a composition made largely of polyester, or if they’re really old, cotton, but in our eyes, to do so is to ignore a vastness of cultural, emotional and historical relevance that sits at the centre of popular culture.
From the game itself and its last-minute winners, that cause ordinary people to briefly lose their mind to the other end of the scale and the sombreness of relegation or in some really unfortunate cases, liquidation. Football has never been more important, but for those who properly involve themselves by going to games and invest their time, money and emotions into it, the football shirt is one seriously emotive icon of culture.
Although it’s fair to say football shirts have never really stayed in their lane, their popularity right now is surely an all-time peak. The crossover has ebbed and flowed, but what’s changed in recent years is the scale of that crossover. Collaborations, capsule collections and designer reinterpretations have brought football aesthetics to a whole new audience.
That connection between kit and culture sits at the heart of Full Time Fits. Founded in Liverpool and fuelled by a genuine obsession with football, the outfit has spent the last three years building one of the city’s most impressive collections of vintage shirts, sportswear and memorabilia. This is more than just a rail of old togger tops, it’s a very well-chosen archive, made up of design classics and fan faves.
What started as a side project has grown into something bigger and better. Full Time Fits has become a destination for collectors, casual supporters and anyone who appreciates the unique place football occupies in modern culture.
Through events, tournaments and collaborations, including a recent World Cup-inspired five-a-side competition alongside SEVENSTORE, they’ve helped strengthen the growing connection between football, fashion and community.
For the latest edition of their SPACES series, our pals at SEVENSTORE went behind the scenes at Full Time Fits HQ. Part archive, part shop, part community hub, it’s a place where football culture is celebrated in all its forms.
