The sun has been relentlessly beating down on our heads these last few weeks, and we feel for anyone without a decent lid to protect them from it. We feel even worse for those who haven’t got one from our pals at Goodlids.
Fortunately, there has never been a better time to pick up a cap from the boys at Goodlids, as over the last couple of weeks, they’ve been touring the world – slinging some of the finest caps, trousers, tees and all manner of hemp goods in the process. Their journey started in Manchester, where we welcomed them with open arms. But before their legs had even begun to recover from a community yomp across the Peak District, the boys were loading the van ahead of a four-hour trip to Shoreditch for the London leg of their adventure.
London saw the team set up a quick but impressive pop-up shop, complete with hyper-realistic boulders and a hefty selection of Goodlids’ finest hemp apparel – providing the ideal headquarters for the crew to hang their hats during their stay in the capital.
The London pop-up (running until July 19th) has seen countless friendly faces come through since opening, with the crew eager to tell anyone that’ll listen, anything and everything about their latest collection. Including an exciting new endeavour into hemp merino, alongside caps, trousers, shirts, sunglasses and much more.
But unlike their nation’s wingless mascot, the Goodlids crew struggle to sit in one place for too long. They’ve just jetted off to explore uncharted territory in the form of New York City – The Big Apple is the final stop on the brand’s Northern Hemisphere tour, where they’ll be setting up basecamp inside Hatchet Outdoor Supply from July 18th to July 19th.
This series of pop-ups proves that Goodlids feels remarkably at home wherever it lands. It’s a testament to the brand’s enthusiasm for creating products that don’t speak louder to one consumer than another. Goodlids and its apparel have time for everyone, and that’s why their visits are always met with such glowing reviews.
Beyond being a great place to kick back and chat, the Goodlids pop-ups showcase everything the brand has been working on over the last 12 months. And when we visited their Manchester store, there were more than a few pieces that caught our eye…
Firstly, their heavily sought-after Hemp Hiking Pants – baggy, wide, flowy, comfortable, lightweight, airy. Goodlids have essentially concocted the perfect trousers for the sort of heat we’ve been experiencing over the last few weeks.
We also found ourselves particularly drawn to the previously mentioned Hemp Merino Baselayers, which the boys eagerly told us they’d been developing in secret for quite some time. As it turns out, blending hemp with wool isn’t quite as simple as mixing lemonade and lager – but thanks to the temperature-regulating qualities of the finished product, the result is just as refreshing.
There was plenty more on display, too, ranging from Hemp Hiking Packs and long-sleeve button-ups to tees and the brand’s namesake headwear. To say the lads are smashing it would be an understatement, and the number of locations they’ve popped up in over the last month is proof enough.
The New York leg of the journey promises to be an exciting one, but there’s no doubt in our minds that the boys’ Kiwi charm and outstanding products will translate just as well over the pond as they have done here. We wish them the best of luck, and only hope that next time we’ll finally manage to buy them that beer we’ve been talking about for the last 12 months.
