A few months ago I did something daft. I sold a vintage pair of Wallabee Lites that I’d spent years hunting down, and even longer keeping them safely stored, unworn. What a pointless exercise. No point in owning something that is to be worn, then not wearing them. That’s what led to me selling them. And it was daft. At the time it felt sensible enough. They weren’t getting much wear, someone else would appreciate them, all that grown-up logic. Within about a week I’d realised I’d made a terrible mistake. Ever since then I’ve been keeping one eye on auction sites, convincing myself another pair would eventually turn up. Turns out I needn’t have bothered, because Clarks Originals have gone back into the archives and brought them back.
For Autumn/Winter 2026, the Wallabee Lite returns, reviving one of those slightly overlooked Clarks Originals gems that deserves far more attention than it gets. First released back in 1986, the Lite took everything people loved about the original Wallabee and quietly made it more practical. Swapping the familiar crepe sole for a lightweight EVA unit transformed the shoe into something you could happily wear all day without sacrificing that unmistakable moccasin shape that’s become a cultural icon from Jamaica to Japan, Manchester to Manhattan.
Rather than simply reproducing the original, Clarks Originals has given the Wallabee Lite a thoughtful refresh. The new high-density EVA sole stays faithful to the look of the ’86 version while improving comfort, durability and overall weight. Inside there’s a removable foam footbed for a bit more cushioning, whilst premium suede uppers, branded sock liners, embossed Originals fobs and heel branding ensure all the details remain exactly where you’d hope they’d be. You also get two sets of laces, giving you the choice between understated tonal flats or speckled round laces if you fancy adding a little extra character.
Colour-wise, it’s a proper spread too. Familiar favourites like Maple, Cola, Grey and Black sit alongside more playful options including Dusty Pink and Red. The Grey Suede, paired with a matching tonal sole, is probably the purist’s choice, whilst the Dusty Pink version feels like the sort of colourway that’ll quietly become someone’s favourite after seeing it in the flesh. Either way, it’s good to see Clarks Originals acknowledging that not every great archive piece needs to stay buried.
The Clarks Originals Wallabee Lite launches globally on 24th July 2026, priced from £75, and will be available through Clarks stores, the Clarks website and selected retailers. Maybe it’s time I rectified a mistake.
