Carhartt WIP’s love affair with cinema

Carhartt might just be the king of the big screen. The workwear brand has appeared in cinema more times than we can care to count – from appearances in cult classics like La Haine (1995) and Pusher (1996), to more recent flicks such as Interstellar (2014) and Manchester By The Sea (2016), Carhartt is seemingly the first brand Hollywood reach for when incorporating workwear into a film.

And why wouldn’t it be? That bold yellow logo is the easiest signifier to tell us that a character doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty, whether that’s out on the cornfields of the American Midwest or traversing the housing projects of Paris or the shady side streets of Copenhagen.

And where other product placements can feel forced and shoehorned, Carhartt generally seems to appear on characters that would believably sport the brand. The sort of gruff-faced, leather-handed fellows that value functionality over pretty much anything else. Picturing them in anything other than a battered Detroit Jacket would simply feel strange.

To celebrate Carhartt forever being Hollywood’s favourite workwear child, we’ve put together a list of Carhartt WIP items from SEVENSTORE worthy of appearing on screen. From hard-wearing jackets to beanies and underwear, these are items that look just as good in the real world as they do on the big screen.

Carhartt WIP OG Detroit Jacket

Here we have the Detroit Jacket – but not as you know it. We’d wager this is the Carhartt WIP garment that’s appeared on screen more than any other, but this time it’s been reimagined in Real Tree camouflage. Perfect for stalking deer, or just your next pint on an autumnal Friday evening.

Carhartt WIP Watch Beanie

Name us a more iconic beanie than the Carhartt WIP Watch Beanie. And while it might look good now, but it’ll look even better once it’s sun-faded, frayed and been run over a few times.

Carhartt WIP Manderson Jacket

Carhartt might’ve made a name for themselves producing workwear, but the Manderson Jacket proves they know their way around military-inspired clobber too. Cut from ripstop fabric, with a longer silhouette and a whopping five pockets, this is as utilitarian as they come.

Carhartt WIP OG Active Jacket

People that really wear Carhartt WIP know that the OG Active Jacket is a criminally underrated part of the brand’s product offering. We’re not sure how a near bulletproof grade of canvas can feel this comfy?

Carhartt WIP Cotton Boxer

A product for the true Carhartt WIP diehards – these could’ve appeared on screen, and we’d never have even known. For anyone seriously buying these boxers, rest assured they’re not made out of canvas.

Carhartt WIP OG Arcan Jacket

Like a slightly trimmer cousin of the Detroit Jacket, the Arcan Jacket comes in a sort of pre-distressed state – ideal if you don’t fancy putting in the hard yards to make your jacket look as good as Cooper’s did in Interstellar.

Carhartt WIP Longsleeve Craft Shirt

An incredibly non-performative Carhartt WIP garment, the Long Sleeve Shirt is the backbone of many a workwear-inspired outfit. We’d advise pretty much everyone to purchase one of these – there’s something freeing about wearing the sort of shirt that you actively want to cover in ketchup.
