Football culture and good clothes have been sharing the same sphere for decades, so Left Hand teaming up with British artist Jamie Liam Humphrey makes plenty of sense.
Three t-shirts and two sweatshirts form this capsule which is inspired by the terraces and the wider culture surrounding the game. Humphrey’s artwork appears within the Left Hand logo on the chest before being broken up, distorted and layered across the back. There are loads of brands paying homage to casual culture in a way that’s pretty on the nose. This is not that. This isn’t an ai mock up of lads at a train station, it’s a bit more abstract than that.
The tee itself is reassuringly substantial, made from 290gsm organic cotton and garment dyed for the sort of finish that should only get better with age. A twisted rib collar adds a nicely worn-in vintage feel, while exposed construction details and stacked sleeve branding provide the finishing touches. Inside, there’s also a woven story label documenting the collaboration and the thinking behind it. It’s a nice detail that most people won’t see, but that’s kind of the point.
The sweat is similarly substantial. 420gsm, made in Portugal and with all the subtle detailing you’d expect.
Every brand these days is scrambling to plant a flag in a little bit of football culture, but this is an authentic celebration of Left Hand’s heritage in that world, even if its popularity in that culture was by accident at first. If you’re keen on something football-inspired that definitely isn’t five a side fodder, look no further.
