adidas Originals x Wales Bonner Japan is ’80’s Refinement

Wales Bonner puts her spin on adidas Orginal’s Japan silhouette.

Wales Bonner, a Central Saint Martin graduate and winner of the 2016 LVMH young designer award, concludes a trilogy of collaborations with adidas by using the platform to focus on the radicalism of the ’80’s, both in discourse and in fashion.

The British-Jamaican designer cites the design and academic history of the ’80’s as a key influence behind the collection, arguing that the garments are a reflection on diasporic radical thinkers of the time, including poets, artists and scholars who shifted thought away from Westerncentrism.

Aphrodite have various key pieces from the collection at their disposal, including the entire range of the Japan silhouette.

The Japan range has four colourways, with the “Hazy Yellow” an immediate stand out. Apart from giving off huge Kill Bill energy, the sleek yellow is bolstered with shiny patent leather that screams clean.

A blend of suede and leather throughout the collection makes the shoe a perfect smart-casual blend. With an exciting backstory and the Wales Bonner branding, the shoe continues to expand adidas’ range and collaborations in an unpredictable manner, while staying true to adidas’ authenticity and style.

Other bits from the Wales Bonner collaboration include an anorak and a reversible sunhat, both of which carry Jamaican reggae and dancehall influences with them, and shine a light on the attire of one of the UK’s most influential groups – not just in thought, but in dress.
