The adidas x Wales Bonner Country is a modern take on a 1970s silhouette.
When the adidas x Wales Bonner collaboration went live last week, we were very excited. Of course, seeing Bonner’s tailored touches on three-stripe tracksuits is top-notch, but being a magazine that evolved from terrace and casual culture, we were very keen to see the footwear upgrades.
One such shoe is the adidas Originals x Wales Bonner Country. The original Country was first launched in 1970 and was, as the name suggests, designed for cross country running, making it a lightweight and slim silhouette.
50 years later and there are much better shoes for running, but the name has stuck. Wales Bonner’s 2022 iteration features two colourways: one entirely constructed in black and completed with suede stripes with gold detailing; the other in tonal brown and hints of navy blue.
Both perfectly capture how the vast array of adidas silhouettes can be pushed and remixed without feeling repetetive.
