If you thought you’d seen and heard all you could about the world’s greatest band (well second best after A Certain Ratio) then think again. Because the immensely talented Finnish geezer Mauri Kunnas has documented the mop-tops rise to fame in the form of a wondrous graphic which documents their early incarnations as fifties school skiffle band the Quarrymen right through to their first hit Please, Please Me in 1963. A personal favourite touch was the appearance of ‘Mick & Keef’ as prophetic angels who pop up every time something ‘significant’ is about to happen. Despite the odd tragedy it’s a truly joyous read, crammed full of musical shenanigans and well observed Scouse wit that also manages to bring something brand new and fresh to the band’s beyond legendary legacy.
