In these times of smartphones, wifi on every corner and the lines between home and office becoming blurred, the way we work is changing. Ten years ago I was sitting in an office where smart trousers and shirt were part of the job, and everything was pretty rigid. The times though… well, they are a-changin’.
The way we work is a world away from our parents’ generation. For last year’s project with Dickies Life, we wanted to illustrate that by documenting the working lives of those who live and work amongst us in Manchester. We wanted to show people working in modern day vocations but wearing reliable, relaxed, traditional workwear. With the brand enjoying a spell of popularity, we could have gone much more directional but that wasn’t what we wanted to show. The tough ordinaryness of the brand is only enhanced by the individuals who favour it. That’s what we wanted to illustrate.
