Back in the early 90’s the Premier League and Bundesliga transfer records were broken for two red-hot goalscorers. Dean Saunders joined Liverpool and Jean Pierre Papin signed for Bayern Munich. Some of their reasoning for joining their respective clubs was undoubtedly the chance to run-out in two of the best kits ever produced by Adidas (Papin even got to play in Marseille’s beautiful version). It’s taken the best part of 25 years but someone at Adidas has found that shirt template again and rolled-out a near identical design for South Africa super-club Orlando Pirates. Quite why the Pirates appear to be the only beneficiaries of this find whilst other Adidas-sponsored clubs like Man United, Juve and Real Madrid get lumbered with boring, bland offerings is a mystery. They get a shirt that ace and they’re called Pirates. Cool bastards.
