size? x ASICSTIGER GEL – Lyte OG ’36 Views’

Asics have paired up with size? and given their GEL-LYTE OG a facelift. Channelling the paintings of celebrated Ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai, the palette picks hues from his legendary block printed series that captured Mount Fuji from varying viewpoints around Japan. I’ve never been to Japan, but I had a dream about it last night. You had to get in a lift to go anywhere and it was all made out of glass. Bit terrifying if I’m honest. Anyway, where was I?

Apparently, this GEL-LYTE OG (always IN CAPITAL LETTERS) boasts innovative details throughout, including a water resistant suede upper, ripstop toe box, and featured for the very first time on this silhouette, pull tabs on both the tongue and heel. The water resistant suede and ripstop upper draw reference to the Great Wave and other bodies of water featured in several of the paintings from the series of Hokusai works. The pink tone found throughout is pulled from the seasonal Cherry Blossoms that sprout from the trees at a very specific time each Spring.

It’s a lovely concept and befitting of something far more grown up than I’ve just written, IMVVVVHO. But I’ve done it now so there.

With a limited run of only 500 pairs available worldwide, there will be a free gift with purchase instore of a limited edition print by Japanese animator SEGAWA THIRTY SEVEN of GIFMAGAZINE. His craft is reimagining the works of Hokusai with a light hearted contemporary twist. In this case, he’s combined the famous image of Mount Fuji and plonked it at the end of London’s Carnaby street, where size? have a flagship retail store.
