You know where you are with Vans. Founded just over half a century ago in California, the Van Doren Rubber Company opened its first store a few months before England won the World Cup. It’s fair to say the planet was a bigger place back then, and certainly in the UK skateboarding and its associated culture was a foreign concept. Sports shops sold sportswear and skateboarding was never really seen as that.
We’ve come a long way since then.
Sports shops these days have evolved beyond selling hockey sticks and stuff which made its mark initially with the skateboarding community is now perfectly acceptable. If something is good, it’s good innit?
