“Every woman, every man; Join the Caravan of love; Stand up, Stand up, Staaaaaand Uppppp” so sang the Hull based, politicised pop foursome The Housemartins. Now, as sartorially inclined as Mr Paul Heaton and the rest of his crew were; and as much as I would have loved them to have been, I don’t think they were balladeering about a little known 60’s shoe from Clarks called The Caravan.
Fast forward a bit, actually a lot, and here we are again, not only singing the praises of The Caravan (now more cooly known as Wallabee Ridge) but throwing parties in its honour.
We mentioned a while back about Northern Quarter sartorial stalwarts Oi Polloi joining forces with one of their (and our) favourite footwear brands Clarks Originals, to bring back a much longed for suede version of The Ridge.
Well, that time has arrived. Thursday 27th February sees the release of the Clarks Originals x Oi Polloi Wallabee Ridge and is ‘celebrated’ with a launch party in its honour at the Manchester based store, with tunes provided by the ‘in-house’ sound makers Pica-Sounds, a bit of free scran and you never know you may even spot a few ‘Proper’ People there (did someone mention free food?)
Available exclusively instore and online from OiPolloi.com, this hyper-comfortable model (if you’ve got the leather versions you’ll know just what I’m on about) comes in Maple and Cola suede uppers with that eye-pleasing, hand-stitch detail around the bumpercar-esque crepe sole unit.
If you haven’t already, it’s time to jump on The Clarks Caravan.
