Euro 2016 Nice bit of Kit: Austria

Qualifying for just their second ever European Championship (Euro 2008 being the previous time), the semi-skimmed German’s go into the tournament in France with a squad of players some of us might actually have heard of. Bayern Munich’s David Alaba is the undoubted star name but they also have Premier league winner Christian Fuchs (snigger), Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer and Stoke City bellend Marco Arnautovic.

The imaginatively nick-named “Das Team” (The Team) will wear a Puma shirt that; features a prominent, diagonal stripe fade graphic through a sublimation print, the Austria EURO 2016 PUMA home kit has a striking look. Further detail comes with the white Form Stripes located along the sleeves, nicely finished off by Austrian national flags on each arm. Which in practice translates as a red shirt with white bands on the sleeves.

Now I’ve got to admit, I always thought Austria’s home shirt was white just like their owners Germany. My tournament memory of Austria is of big Toni Polster at Italia 90 and in those memories he is wearing a white Puma shirt virtually identical to the away shirt for France. They should wear white tbh. It suits them more and the white version of the shirt here is better than the red. It’s not too late to change so if the Austrian FA are reading they should think on.

Martin Harnik (nope…me neither) of the Austrian national team said, “Today’s launch is really exciting. I really like the design features and the fit of the ACTV technology is excellent and very comfortable”. I think he’s probably talking about a car there though to be fair to him.
