For the Record (Gestalten)

All the best ideas are the simplest ones aren’t they? Take the Red Bull Music Academy’s ‘For the Record’ for example.  Put two (or three) bona fide musical geniuses in a room together for a cosy chat about what makes them and their music tick, take some pictures of them and then put it all together in a nice big chunky book to celebrate the RBMA’s 15th anniversary. I can only speak for myself but I’m pretty sure you too will find somebody in there who’s responsible for one of your favourite songs or albums.  I struck gold several times via the inclusion of Sly & Robbie, Nile Rodgers, Martyn Ware and the creators of without a doubt the finest reggae album ever made (Time Boom & De Devil Dead) namely Adrian Sherwood and Lee Scratch Perry. And where most conversations in this book follow a traditional and informal conversational pattern LSP true to form provides us with his usual verbal voodoo, coming out with Jamaican gems such as: “If you have a lovely woman with a lovely, sexy pum pum on your arm, then you will be the top forever.” Can’t really argue with that can you? If you have a passion for examining the DNA of game-changing musicians then this is the book for you. Buy it HERE and check out the complete list of contributors below.
