G-Shock Celebrates 30 Years at Moniker Art Fair 2012

It’s hard to believe that Mr Ibe’s dream of a ‘watch that never breaks’ AKA the mighty Casio G-Shock first appeared on Japanese high streets way back in 1983. This ground-breaking and iconic watch has retained it’s youthful good looks by evolving technologically over the years whilst still retaining the seven key elements; electric shock resistance, gravity resistance, low temperature resistance, vibration resistance, water resistance, shock resistance and toughness. In 2013, G-SHOCK will be celebrating their 30th anniversary and in the lead up to this momentous occasion they’re supporting this year’s Moniker Art Fair.

The Moniker Art Fair isLondon’s must see multidisciplinary event within the alternative contemporary art world. It attracts some of the most renowned and talked-about artists, galleries and curators for London’s art week to highlight the trend in which the city is spearheading; art with its roots firmly embedded in urban culture.

G-Shock Premium’s latest Art Ambassador, Remi Rough, an abstractionist and one of London’s most prolific painters, will collaborate with Moniker Projects on an installation entitled ‘30th & Time’, a New York inspired street scene supported by G-Shock to celebrate their 30 years. The two storey high installation spanning the back wall of the main atrium at Village Underground will incorporate a sidewalk and archetypalNew Yorkbus stop. Remi will paint the building’s fascia, replicating the artwork he created forLondon’s largest mural on the Megaro Hotel in Kings Cross

Moniker Projects are pleased to be involved with G-Shock’s 30th anniversary and excited about the project we have curated with Moniker artist and G-Shock Ambassador Remi Rough. The ‘30th & Time’ installation that will be showcased at Moniker Art Fair is one of our boldest yet.”– Mr Frankie Shea, Director of Moniker Projects and Founder of the Moniker Art Fair

This years event will take place at east London’s cultural project space, the Village Underground and will run from 11th – 14th October to coincide with London’s foremost international art event, Frieze. It will see Moniker’s trademark ‘artist project spaces’ fully cultivated to create an experiential showcase of cutting edge contemporary art. Each individually curated project space will provide an opportunity for artists to showcase work that might otherwise transcend their everyday practice. This compelling facet of Moniker will emphasize the individual capacity of each chosen artist in a setting beyond that of most conventional contemporary art galleries.

G-Shock for me is a great brand to work with … Not just because the product itself is extremely cool but because I’ve grown up with it all my life. Moniker is a pleasure to be a part of too. They have been so accommodating in making my project space one of the, if not biggest, things at the fair. I am very excited about it.”– Remi Rough, Artist

The Moniker Art Fair starts Thursday 11th October and will run until Sunday 14th.
